Summary Of Written Public Comments from the
Public Information Meeting
held December 13, 2000, at Morristown
Elementary School
7 Comment Sheets Received
Believes northeast route is still
the best bypass route. Also believes Interim Improvement Alternative 13 or 7 is the best
route through Wickenburg.
Concerns about Qwest tower and
railroad on property adjacent to SR 74. Suggested that the diamond interchange
at SR 74/US 60 be moved farther south to avoid homes at Buckinghorse Ranch and Cactus
Ranch.
Strongly opposed to Wickenburg
bypass. Believes Canamex should be routed through I-10 and Vulture Peak Road. Also
believes that an EIS should be required for vulture habitat.
Suggested that implementing the
bypass route connecting east of the Morristown overpass would allow a connection to SR 74
with fewer homes displaced.
Believes that the bypass could
create a safety problem due to increased traffic through Morristown. Prefers to connect
the bypass east of the Morristown overpass, which eliminates the need to bridge railroad
tracks and most of US 60 traffic from Morristown.
Prefers construction of a bypass
extending from Wickenburg to I-10 because it would affect very few people and cost less.
Suggests waiting until the Wickenburg bypass is completed before widening US 93 to 4 lanes
north of Wickenburg to Santa Maria River.
Concerned about the impact that the
Far West and Southwest bypass routes would have on Morristown and the Vulture Mts.,
including displacement of homes, noise, and environmental/habitat losses. Believes the
expenditure of` hundreds of millions of highway funds for this bypass is a misuse of land
and dollars. Concerned about impacts on the BLM's proposed Vulture Peak Special Recreation
Management Area. Suggested that the SR 74/US 60 interchange could be routed to avoid
Morristown and the Vulture Mts. Supports the widening of US 93 to 4 lanes from north of
Wickenburg to Santa Maria River.
